Disney Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus photos posing in satin sheets in Vanity Fair has sparked outrage from parents.
Some parents reacted with outrage over the weekend when the television program “Entertainment Tonight” began showing commercials promoting a scoop: Ms. Cyrus, the star of the wholesome Disney Channel blockbuster “Hannah Montana,” had posed with her chest covered, for the Vanity Fair photographer, Annie Leibovitz.
Screen grabs of the photo quickly popped up online, sparking a blogosphere debate. “Bonfire anyone?” wrote Lin Burress on her marriage and parenting blog, Telling It Like It Is, referring to the mountain of Hannah Montana retail items — makeup, shoes, clothes — in the marketplace. “Parents should be extremely concerned,” Ms. Burress said in an interview. “Very young girls look up to Miley Cyrus as a role model.”
It is doubtful that one photograph — especially one that is tame in the context of an Internet awash in nude photographs of other starlets — could dent the Hannah Montana machine, said several Wall Street analysts. Retail sales for the franchise are expected to total about $1 billion in 2008. A motion picture is in the works for 2009 and Ms. Cyrus signed a seven-figure book deal with the Disney Book Group last week.
But keeping a teenage entertainment franchise on track in an age when stars are monitored around the clock by bloggers and paparazzi is extremely difficult, even for a company with the experience of Disney. Executives are constantly battling to keep minor slipups from growing into full-blown controversies.

Really? Are people really freaking out about this? Poor kiddo…its Annie Liebowitz! She’s absolutely right…you don’t say no to her. I think Miley is alright. I myself am a mother and am not scared for my daughter to see a bare skin back. You see the same photo at an art museum in the form of a watercolor portrait or sculpture. Americans need to lighten up! And you crazy mothers, off of your high horse…you’re just mad b/c you weren’t that gorgeous at 15 and you can’t find anything else to be upset about. So stop being so judgemental and move along. Geez.

personally there not as bad as the media had put them out to be.now i’m not saying that she should go around naked but if you think of all vanity fairs covers half of the people on there are naked. so i don’t think she should be crtized for pictures b/c of the type of style of the magizine. so if there is anyone to blame do blame her blame the magizine(even thought there not that bad )
I’m kinda disappointed because of her age. She is only 15. I am 17, almost 18 and I couldn’t imagine myself doing that. First it is bra, then a bed sheet, and soon it will be nothing at all and she will become another ruined Disney Channel star like Vanessa Hudgens. She needs to chill. She should know what is at stake, and so should her parents with being on Disney and all. Why can’t she wait until she is 18 at least. I think she is confused and really wants to grow up really fast, from her outfits and everything, she needs to embrace her youth and her last while at a minor.

It’s not really that bad but the fact is she is 15. I mean is she is willing to pose like that at her age. What will she be willing to do when she gets older. I’m pretty sure she knew what she was doing. I don’t think she meant her apology. It just the fact that she thought people will take is an artistic image and they didn’t so she apologized. I can’t believe her parents let her do that. Her hair is all messy so it looks like she just woke up in bed. So of course it’s going to be taken as a sexual image. I also thing the reason it’s being taken as so bad is because she alot of preteens her look up to her and I think alot of parents aren’t going to take those pictures that well. I think she just wants to get our of the HANNAH MONTANA image. I would too if I was her. But her pictures with her father are worse than that picture. They look like thier a couple or something. I think her father is just trying to find fame out of his daughter.
I feel sorry for both the Miley and the photographer, because Miley DID like the photo when it was first shown to her, you have to admit she looks beautiful, and what girl doesn’t want to look beautiful? I feel bad for the photographer because her work is being ridiculed; she is a wonderful photographer and only deserves great praise for her work.
I really hope people will get over this, and Miley, when she is older, look back at this photograph and remember good things about her teenage years because it truly is a beautiful photograph.
I’m a fourteen year old girl and i used to be a huge miley cyrus/ hannah montana fan but after seeing the photos that have been posted recently, i’m having second thoughts on her. I have to agree, this is a beautiful picture of miley but people have to realize that there are plenty of girl out there who look up to her, just like me, and these photos are not great examples for us. Also, you don’t have to be half naked inorder to take a beautiful picture. As a fan, i am very disapointed in her and i hope she doesn’t become a bad influence on kids.
I have to agree that these photos are not right. Of course, she is only showing her back but what is the purpose of this photo anyway? What does it represent? Do girls normally sleep in satin sheets naked at 15, NO! They could have created a different pose for her. Instead the photo leads you to associate being in bed with her, especially with the red lipstick. Annie and Vanity Fair should be ashamed for trying to put any amount of sexual vibe to these photos. It is too bad that her parents were not strong or knowledgable enough to say NO! It’s too bad that people still feel like you need to put sex into the equation in order to sell in Hollywood, foremost with teen stars like Miley.

Parents and Kids please!!!! I grew up in the Madonna era, and if anyone knows Madonna, NO ONE can shock like she did. Yet I still liked her as a singer and she was entertaining to watch but I never went out in public and walked around naked just becaused Madonna did. It’s all about the parenting skills and how open you are talking with your children about reality and TV fantasy. Yes we need role models in ours lives but let them be a mother, father, grandparents or great teachers NOT actors or singers. My daughter is 6 years old and she loves Hannah Montanna/Miley Cyrus and I will not discourage her from watching Hannah Montanna/Miley Cyrus just because of some pictures that really are not even that controversial – the only thing that makes it controversial are the people that are very unhappy with their lives and are jealous of not having a Celebrity lives style (you can deny it but you have wished for it once) I just explained to my daughter that this is not something that happens in real life and that Miley Cyrus wanted to take creative pictures – believe me if my daughter grows up wanting to takes pictures that are controversial IT WILL not be because of Miley Cirus it will because she chooses to and I will love her anyway. Just relax and enjoy her acting (because she is funny) and her singing (she is really good) Don’t do Monkey see monkey do and you will grow up to be wonderful grown ups with issues of your own. That’s the WHOLE problem here, the cause of all this discord, and the reason this proves Miley Ray Cyrus is a Discordian. She should have done like Brooke Shields before her, and posed with her chest UNCOVERED. Now that would be art.
